The Republican Association of Princeton 4th Annual Lincoln Day Dinner was held in Princeton at Jasna Polana, on April 16.   Guest of Honor and featured speaker Steve Forbes dissected the current state of the economy and the dangerous direction in which the nation is headed under current administration policy.  With insight and good humor, Forbes offered a prescription to cure current ills--a return to the free enterprise system, limits on government regulation of the economy and the empowerment of the entrepreneurial spirit in America.  (See essay by Steve Forbes on RAP  "Issues " page.)

The Republican Association of Princeton hosted its Fourth Annual Lincoln Day Dinner on Friday, April 16, at Jasna Polana, to celebrate the life and achievements of America’s 16th and first Republican President.

But despite the occasion, old Abe was definitely second fiddle. Guests were either anticipating what keynote speaker Steve Forbes, chairman and chief executive of Forbes Inc., would say at dinner or leafing through the promotional materials from Congressional candidate Scott Sipprelle.

Who is Sipprelle? U.S. 1’s Richard K. Rein sized him up in a February 3 column as “a Republican trying to win a race in a heavily Democratic district — the 12th Congressional district represented since 1999 by Rush Holt. Sipprelle is a Princeton-based investment fund manager whose Wall Street experience included a stint at Morgan Stanley, where he became a managing director in the equity capital markets division by age 32.” Sipprelle recently wrote “The Golden Dog,” a mystery novel set on Wall Street.

Sipprelle has lived in Princeton since 2001, in "Westland," the former home of President Grover Cleveland, which inspired the name of his investment firm, Westland Ventures. In addition to his work in the private sector, Sipprelle and his wife, Tracy, run the Sipprelle Charitable Corporation, which provides funding to area projects and charities.

A press release issued by the National Republican Congressional Committee on April 19 officially announced Sipprelle as an “On the Radar” candidate in the NRCC’s Young Guns program, designed to assist Republican candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives.

The Republican Association of Princeton held a holiday party hosted by community patroness Carol Wojciechowicz on December 13.  A wintry rain storm failed to deter an overflow crowd of Republican stalwarts who enjoyed the camaraderie as well as libations, a buffet and music during the festive evening.

The Republican Association of Princeton held a "fun-raising" lawn party at the Princeton home of Carol Wojciechowicz on June 7.  Over 70 people attended the event, including candidates for NJ State Assembly, Mercer County Freeholder and Princeton Township Committee and Borough Council.  Republican candidate for Governor, Chris Christie, telephoned during the event to greet and thank the attendees for their continued support.

Republican Association of Princeton Celebrates Lincoln
Chris Christie and John Crowley inspire with messages of hope and opportunity

Gubernatorial hopeful Christopher J. Christie and health care visionary John F. Crowley delivered a one-two punch to an overflow crowd at Jasna Polana on February 20.  The Republican Association of Princeton's Lincoln Day Dinner was host to the two speakers in an evening jubilee that combined public policy, celebration, and song.  Christie, the former US Attorney for New Jersey, provided the enthusiastic crowd with a broad discussion of the governing philosophy he intends to bring to Trenton.  Describing New Jersey as a state that has grown unsustainably hostile to both employers and taxpayers, Christie pledged a new chapter of fiscal responsibility.  "I promise you that the businesses of New Jersey cannot do worse under a Christie administration," said the Republican hopeful while citing statistics placing New Jersey as the worst of fifty states in operating climate for business.

Crowley, currently the CEO of biotechnology company Amicus Therapeutics, described how his quest for a cure to the disease which afflicted his two young children led him on a personal crusade to commercialize the drug for treating Pompe disease. Crowley reflected on the current debate over health care in America and emphasized the importance of crafting solutions that maintained America's primacy as the world's innovator in medical discovery.

Accomplished soprano Carolyn Hoyler entertained the crowd with an assortment of patriotic songs throughout the evening, while local entrepreneur Scott Sipprelle offered the evening's Lincoln dedication.  Elizabeth Bucklee of  Stuart Country Day School initiated the night's events by leading the assemblage in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  Linda Sipprelle, the President of the Republican Association of Princeton commented, "This was our most successful event ever.  Republicans seem more engaged and more motivated than they have been in many, many years."

The First Annual Fall Reception for Mercer County Republican County and Municipal Candidates took place October 16.  The fund-raising event was held at the home of Bob and Brenda Martin in Hopewell Township.  County Republican luminaries were in attendance and the candidates were accorded a rousing response.

The October 4 Republican Association of Princeton (RAP) voter registration and campaign literature table at Hinds (Library) Plaza enjoyed perfect fall weather and encouraging visitors and passersby.  Stalwart RAP volunteers engaged voters and distributed campaign items.  McCain-Palin bumper stickers, campaign buttons, lawn signs and American flags were in high demand.

The October 3 "meet and greet" for 12th District Congressional candidate Alan Bateman in Hopewell Township had a full house.  The event was co-hosted by Bill Spadea and Bob Martin.  Alan discussed his plans for bringing financial accountability to Congress.

The September 30 Republican Association of Princeton's "meet our candidates" evening at The Nassau Club was attended by an enthusiastic capacity audience.  Bill Spadea, President of "Building The New Majority" and former Congressional candidate, was the keynote speaker.  Alan Bateman, 12th District Congressional candidate, Jim McSorley, candidate for Mercer County Sheriff, Cindy Randazzo, candidate for Mercer County Freeholder and Dudley Sipprelle, candidate for Princeton Borough Council, discussed their issues and platforms.  Representatives of the Zimmer for Senate and McCain-Palin campaigns also participated.  A number of new members were welcomed by RAP.
